STENHØJ was founded back in 1917 by the then only 23-year-old Sigurd Stenhøj. He bought the smithy where he was employed, but since he was not old enough to be the registered owner, his father had to sign the papers.
During the 1920s, Chevrolet cars became increasingly popular in Denmark, but they posed challenges for workshops – especially the lower models, which made it difficult for mechanics to get underneath. This led to Sigurd Stenhøj’s first major invention: the automotive lift, the “car elevator,” which he developed in 1929 and patented in 1930.
Even back then, Sigurd Stenhøj laid the foundation for what has become one of STENHØJ’s greatest hallmarks: innovative thinking, strong adaptability, and remarkable initiative. Where others saw limitations, STENHØJ saw opportunities. And that spirit continues-more than 100 years later.
In 1932, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK developed its first workshop press. Demand steadily grew, and in 1947, the decision was made to build a large factory on Barrit Langgade the same town where the original smithy was located. In 1965, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK was formally established, and another factory was built just a few hundred meters away at Sigurd Stenhøj Vej 2.
From there, the STENHØJ family ran the company until 2018, when STENHØJ HYDRAULIK was sold to Pentaco Partners, who have since managed ownership. But even though ownership has changed hands, everything remains as it has always been in the now 60-year-old (as of 2025) Barrit factory. The company continues to operate based on the exact values Sigurd Stenhøj established back in the 1920s: innovation, adaptability, and initiative. Where others see limitations, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK still sees opportunities.
Since 1932, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK has been among Europe’s most respected manufacturers of hydraulic presses. From the early hand pumps to today’s fully automated systems, the company has continually advanced its technology to meet modern industry’s demands for precision, safety, and efficiency.
This means that every single workshop press from STENHØJ HYDRAULIK is designed, tested, and manufactured according to Danish quality and safety standards – with CE certification, documented material strength, and full component traceability.
At STENHØJ HYDRAULIK, it’s not just about machines – it’s about solutions that integrate seamlessly into the customer’s daily operations, contributing to a more productive and safer working environment.
There are now many suppliers of workshop presses, but few with the experience and adaptability of STENHØJ HYDRAULIK. Professionals particularly highlight five reasons why they keep coming back again.
A press must perform every time. STENHØJ HYDRAULIK’s designs are built with robust welded frames, reinforced cylinder housings, and precision-machined components capable of withstanding thousands of pressure cycles without any loss of accuracy. The hydraulic system uses high-quality oil and durable seals, ensuring stable oil pressure and minimal maintenance. Many customers find that their presses operate flawlessly for over 40 years and often much longer with only routine servicing.
You can configure your press to suit your needs using the company’s online configurator tool. Here, you select pressure capacity, frame type (H- or C-frame), pump and motor type, worktable, and accessories. This ensures you get a machine perfectly tailored to your tasks without paying for unnecessary features.
For many customers, this flexibility is the decisive factor: STENHØJ HYDRAULIK delivers everything from compact 20-ton presses to custom-built industrial models and everything in between.
Time is money and downtime is costly. Once the configuration is approved, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK can ship the finished press within 24 hours, depending on the configuration. At the same time, a highly skilled Danish service team is ready to provide rapid hydraulic support, spare parts, and expert advice. This ensures you always have the help you need
All presses from STENHØJ HYDRAULIK are CE-marked and comply with all European safety standards. At STENHØJ HYDRAULIK, they operate according to two press standards: EN ISO 16092-1 and EN ISO 16092-3.
Buying a press from STENHØJ HYDRAULIK is the beginning of a partnership not the end of a transaction. For more than 100 years customers have returned again when they needed guidance or support. The company provides technical advice operator training and ongoing hydraulic service to ensure the press performs optimally throughout its entire lifetime.
Customers particularly highlight one thing that they can call a service technician directly with in-depth knowledge of both the product and the customer. They are met at eye level not through an anonymous hotline. At STENHØJ HYDRAULIK the employees are proud of their products and they wish to give customers insight into a company with more than 100 years of experience and an expertise rarely found elsewhere.
STENHØJ HYDRAULIK presses are made from high-strength steel and undergo both pressure and functional testing before leaving the factory.
Both models come with a hydraulic pump system.
This means you can always find a solution from STENHØJ HYDRAULIK that balances power, precision, and ergonomics regardless of the task the workshop press is required to perform.
Several international industrial companies that work with daily pressing and straightening tasks highlight three things when describing why they chose STENHØJ HYDRAULIK.
“STENHØJ HYDRAULIK offers direct price information and fast quotations on its website with the help of its configurator, which is a major advantage compared to competitors who often neither display prices nor have a particularly digital or efficient ordering process. Overall, the prices are attractive, and the customer service is very good.”
STENHØJ HYDRAULIK offers not only products but complete hydraulic presses.
When you contact the company, the process begins with a needs analysis: What materials do you need to press? What pressure is required?
It is important to remember that a press can always deliver lower pressure, but additional force cannot be added. Will the press be integrated into an existing production line?
If you are unsure how a workshop press works, you can read the article ”How a hydraulic workshop press works.”.
Afterwards, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK’s specialists provide advice on press model, oil, accessories, and service agreements. This proactive approach ensures your press performs at its best and that you are never left alone with technical challenges.
For customers with daily operations, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK offers preventive hydraulic service, where wear parts are replaced before problems occur. This reduces the risk of unplanned downtime.
Choosing STENHØJ HYDRAULIK is also a choice for responsible manufacturing.
The company produces locally in Denmark and works with suppliers who meet current environmental and workplace standards.
The modular design means that spare parts and upgrades can be added instead of replacing the entire machine.
For professionals who demand the highest standards of quality and support, a workshop press from STENHØJ HYDRAULIK is not just a purchase but an investment in productivity and peace of mind.
With fast delivery, proven operational reliability, and dedicated service, you get a machine that not only presses materials but also boosts the overall efficiency of your workshop.

STENHØJ HYDRAULIK builds on the values that a young man laid the foundation for in the 1920s: innovative thinking, adaptability, and initiative. Where others see limitations, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK still sees opportunities. In this way, even after 100 years, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK can still be found at Sigurd Stenhøj Vej 2 in Barrit, just a few hundred meters from the old STENHØJ factory on Barrit Langgade, which Sigurd Stenhøj founded more than 100 years ago. This year, STENHØJ HYDRAULIK celebrates its 60th anniversary.
The company is performing better than ever, which was also reflected when it was named a Børsen Gazelle in the fall of 2025, an award given to only a very small percentage of Danish companies that have demonstrated significant and stable growth over several years.
